My fellow writer recently wrote on a possible trade with the Atlanta Hawks. Could the Phoenix Suns throw in Josh Jackson?

The Phoenix Suns have the sixth overall pick in the NBA Draft, much lower than they had been hoping for but good things can still happen with their pick.

One use for it is in a trade and one possibility as Adam recently wrote, is sending it to the Atlanta Hawks for the eighth and tenth picks.

The point is it would give the Suns not one but two picks in the top-ten in the draft and provide even more options for a team desperate to improve their roster.

Atlanta has the eighth pick (their own) and the tenth pick (from Dallas in last year’s draft night trade). While I don’t know if they would bite on a trade that would send both of those picks to simply move up to the sixth spot, it really depends who they’re eyeing and if he’s still on the board.

As Adam stated, if the Hawks have their heart set on a particular player with the sixth overall pick that might not be there at eight or ten, or they prefer not to have two rookies, the Suns could offer to move back and take their two picks while allowing Atlanta to move up.

Another asset could be included to “sweeten” the pot, for both sides. Hello, Josh Jackson.

The Hawks have Trae Young and Kevin Huerter in the back court with John Collins at the four. They’re still exploring all options at small forward and the best fit would be a defensive small forward that can guard several positions.

While Jackson hasn’t had the best showing in a Phoenix Suns uniform, defense was his calling card out of Kansas and he’s only 22. A change of scenery could do wonders for him and he could end up being a lot better than what the Hawks could get with the tenth pick. It would also mean they are essentially trading the eighth pick for the sixth pick which is simply a no-brainer.

What are Atlanta’s thoughts on Josh? Well, Phoenix would be wise to pick up the phone and ask. It would open about $7 million in cap this summer, allow them to part ways with Jackson and go from having the sixth pick to two top-ten picks.

Ring. Ring.
