With Brett Brown’s seat rumored to be very hot and Monty Williams still needing to name his assistants, could they flip positions on the Phoenix Suns?

The Phoenix Suns recently hired Monty Williams as their new head coach. He’s spent this season as Brett Brown’s lead assistant in Philadelphia on the Sixers, who just gave up the rights to play in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Toronto Raptors.

Monty was staying on the Sixers until their playoff run ended and now will be joining the Suns here soon. All his attention has been focused there so he’s yet to name any assistant coaches.

Could this all work out in a very ironic manner? Could the two both come to Phoenix, flipping positions on their way to the Valley? Could Brett be Monty’s lead assistant on the Suns?

The two get along very well, are friends and have a lot of respect for each other. There couldn’t be a better lead assistant out there better than this possibility. That would be a lot of experience coming to town and good things would surely follow.

Would Monty be willing to do it? Surely.

Would Brett be willing to take the role as an assistant? He’d definitely need time to think about it but the few open head coach jobs are being filled and he’s still going to be getting paid by Philadelphia. Add that to helping Williams turn the Suns luck around and bring back the good days to a once respected franchise and it would surely make the gig tempting.

Would the Sixers do it? I don’t see why they’d make that kind of move as he’s been a really good head coach and this would definitely be an impulse move but it’s been rumored.

According to Marc Stein, he’s sitting on a very hot seat at the moment.

“Rumblings in league coaching circles have grown louder by the day that 76ers Coach Brett Brown needs an NBA Finals berth to keep his job. Brown, I’m told, has little chance of surviving a second-round exit.”

Stein is among the most credible reporters and one would have to think his source is legit.

We will have to wait and see if he is indeed canned. Should he be, Brown and Williams could both come to the valley in reverse roles. Monty as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns and Brett as his lead assistant. It would definitely be an ironic turn of events but it would surely be a good thing for the Suns. Kawhi Leonard may have just shot Brett Brown to the Suns.
