The Phoenix Suns pick up another W over the Lakers
Neither team has done a lot of winning lately so fans will take the wins where they get them. The Phoenix Suns just picked up another W over the Lakers.
A couple weeks ago, the Phoenix Suns canned Igor Kokoskov and the Los Angeles Lakers parted ways with Luke Walton. Both franchises began their search for a new head coach.
For about two weeks, it’s been known that Monty Williams was seen by the Lakers front office as their very top candidate for their next head coach.
Then came the news that the Suns were head over heels with Monty and he was their top target as well. All of a sudden, the storied Lakers were going to have to battle with a rival for what they desired.
L.A. wanted the well respected and experienced head coach to lead their team on the sidelines, but so did Phoenix. Let the better (er, least troubled recently?) franchise win.
The Lakers were going to have to rely heavily on GM Rob Pelinka while the Suns were going to be entrusting newly promoted GM James Jones (and obviously owner Robert Sarver) to do the chasing, luring and convincing.
Both teams were getting to a second interview with Williams so it appeared it was going to be a race to the finish line.
With both teams not having had much recent stability at the head coaching position, this was going to be an important hire for both. The Suns were trying to find a head coach that could grow with their young core and the Lakers were looking to compete now (Really? They missed the playoffs too.) with LeBron James.
Well, we know now that Monty has made his decision and his choice has been made official. He’s the new head coach of the Phoenix Suns. The Suns won! They got their man, and they “stole” him away from the Lakers. That’s a win and any victory over the rival Lakers feels oh, so good!
Williams chose the Suns over the Lakers, Phoenix over Los Angeles, Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton over LeBron, a chance to return a once respected franchise back into a winner over just going to Hollywood with a chance LeBron really wanted Ty Lue.
Monty has a solid chance of getting the Suns into winning ways again and it’s going to be fun to watch. But, one thing is for sure, Phoenix beat L.A.
