It is purely coincidental that I have the three “PHX” uniforms back-to-back-to-back, but, in my mind, it certainly appears that this is exactly in that order on this list that they deserve to be placed.

While I always felt that the original orange PHX uniforms were always a little hurt by the lack of purple on them (I was never a fan of the grey sides), the last generation of black PHX uni’s had way too little color in general. They were sleek, but bland. Their ranking on the list of Suns uniforms is strictly because so many others were so bad.

And while I don’t think these new black PHX’s are all that special, the added color is pretty interesting, and the orange numbers really pop.

What holds so far behind the original black fireball uniforms though is that the font is once again in the shade of grey (actually two). I just do not understand why the Suns (or whatever artists designed these uniforms) keep going back to the grey shades when purple and orange really do enough to make a uniform pop. I would prefer that the letters were either in purple or orange, or that the entire face of the uniform was designed differently so that the additional colors worked better than they apparently believed they do by using grey.

In the end they are still not all that bad and do deserve a space in the franchise’s top one third of uniforms warn all-time. While over time certain uniforms do tend to grow on fans possibly raising them up in their own personal lists, I do not see that happening with this one as it’s track-suit look just doesn’t compare with the traditional looks of the jerseys ahead of it on this list.
