The Phoenix Suns decided to move on from Kokoskov as head coach. One route they could go from here is hiring a current assistant for the head coach job.

It doesn’t matter what you think of the decision because it’s already been made. The Phoenix Suns decided to can Igor Kokoskov as the team’s head coach and is looking for their next head coach. They need to make sure it’s the right hire because it’ll be their seventh in as many seasons.

There are many different avenues the Suns can drive down to find their guy.

I recently discussed five candidates if the team was to look to the college ranks for their next head coach.

Another route the franchise could look to go is taking a look at assistant coaches from around the league to see who they think would help this team if they brought him in.

Monty Williams, Nate Tibbetts and David Vanterpool are three names that have come up as candidates that the Suns are interviewing but this piece will go over other candidates.

Unlike college coaches that would have to take a big leap forward in that whatever they built at their respected university would now be in the hands of another coach and they’d have to put everything behind them, these guys are all more likely because most assistants would jump at the opportunity to become a head coach.

Some may question a move that would take them away from a winning team and from learning from a solid head coach for a job with such high turnover as the Suns but for more money and a chance at being a head coach themselves, they’d likely agree on the right terms.

Let’s take a look at who the top 5 candidates would be if the Suns looked to current assistants.
