The Phoenix Suns signed Jimmer Fredette, a hot shooter, but in order to get consistent run he will have to overcome an obstacle first.

Consistent offense has been hard to find for the Phoenix Suns, especially as of late, and that’s at least part of the reason why they signed Jimmer Fredette. He was pretty much a basketball god in China, scoring at will to the tune of 36 points per game, making 5 triples each match.

However, in order to get consistent playing time on the Suns, he has to get past his first obstacle in purple and orange.

Fredette is a shooter, barely big enough to play shooting guard and not much of a play maker to play point guard. The Phoenix Suns have been in need of an upgrade at the point all season and have been bitten by the injury bug lately as well. He can shoot and score.

So, he has a legitimate chance at not only being able to get into the rotation but stay in the rotation, at least for the rest of this season. However, in order to get to that position, he has something in his way.

Troy Daniels is a hot shooter himself and if that’s what the team is needing right now, he’s going to be that for them. Even though he hasn’t got the run like he did last season, he’s made 1.7 threes on 4.3 attempts, a 40.1% clip from downtown throughout his career.

Daniels has been given a shot in the rotation over the last 3 games and he’s risen to the occasion, as he’s made 7 of 17 threes (41.2%) and averaged 11 points per game. He will also be a free agent this coming summer and doesn’t know where his next stop will be, whether with Phoenix or in another city on another franchise.

He’s going to step up when his name is called, because that’s what he does and that’s what he needs to do for his future. Even though another player has been signed to provide something similar to what he does and add depth, not necessarily a replacement, he’s not going to let them get the minutes he’s worked for without a competition.

In order to get more minutes in the rotation, Fredette is going to have to take them from Troy’s hot shooting hands. Good luck with that.
