It’s no secret that the franchise player for the Phoenix Suns can shoot and score. He’s nearing that point in his career where he starts passing several former Suns on the franchise’s all time lists.
Devin Booker is off to a great start to his career as he is playing at an All-Star level and clearly holds the reins as the franchise player. Hopefully the recent play by the team keeps up and a strong off season is around the corner so the team can start winning. It’s only then that he will truly get the recognition he deserves.
For the mean time, fans have had something to be excited about as they have themselves a stud. He is and will continue to climb the ranks of not just the Suns all time lists but in NBA history as well, at least in scoring and three point shooting.
He recently became the youngest player in NBA history to make 500 three pointers, according to the Phoenix Suns Twitter. That is quite the accomplishment and there are several milestones in the near future that he will be meeting. There will be a lot of firsts for him and he will be chasing many names and records.
The Tweet got me thinking and something came to mind. How does he fare against former Suns on the franchise’s all time list for three pointers made? Well, he already places in the top ten and will quickly climb the ranks.
He currently ranks 8th in Suns history with 504 made threes.
Sitting at 7th is Jared Dudley with 543. Next, in 6th place, is Channing Frye with 594. After that is Raja Bell, 5th on the list, with 622.
With Booker making any where from 99 to 147 treys per season thus far in his career, it will be no time before he secures himself in the top five. If he hits that 99 next season, he’ll be at 603 and if he makes it to that 147 it launches him to 651. Keep in mind, he still has the rest of this season to play as well.
In 4th place is Shawn Marion, at 652 made threes. That’s a very possible new position for Devin by the end of next season.
Fans should be excited to watch him go up the ladder. If you’re wondering Leandro Barbosa is 3rd with 751, Dan Majerle is 2nd with 800 and Steve Nash is 1st with 1,051 made treys. It will take a little longer to pass them but he will surely get there soon enough.
In NBA history, Book currently sits at 303rd but it’s no exaggeration to say he couldn’t be among the all time leaders when all is said and done. As he passes Dudley, Frye, Bell and Marion he will be projecting himself into the top 215-230 range among all players that have ever shot the long ball in the association.
Booker is a shooter and we can only sit back and watch history be made as he goes higher and higher up the all time lists.
