The Phoenix Suns beating the Milwaukee Bucks last night was more than just an improbable win. It was a major confidence boost for the young Suns.

Whenever the team with the worst record in the NBA beats the team with the best record in the NBA, it is always a head scratcher. The Phoenix Suns beat the Milwaukee Bucks twice this year in their only two meetings, and I think we all know that the Bucks are no joke. Saying that these are impressive wins is putting it lightly.

The Bucks are not locked into the top seed in the East either. Toronto is only 2 games back of them now. This was not a fluke win as the Suns fought it out and were the better team on the court for one game against a legit team with something to play for. The Bucks were trying to win to secure home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

So, what does this win mean? It means that the Suns now know that they are good enough to compete with any team in the league on any given night. Sure, most of the players probably believed this already as they should have, but now they have proved themselves.

The Suns proved that they could come back from big deficits in this game. They were down 16 in the first half, and they were down 10 in the fourth quarter. The Suns also were able to play fantastic team defense to contain Giannis Antetokounmpo to 21 points. Deandre Ayton was a critical part to this as he played a crucial role in containing LeBron James in their win Saturday against the Lakers.

An outsider would look at this game and think that Devin Booker must have had an outstanding game. He played well with 22 points and 7 assists, but this was Kelly Oubre’s game. Oubre has been a breath of fresh air for this Suns team night in and night out. Last night was no different as he led the team in scoring and rebounding with 27 points and 13 rebounds. He was also a defensive presence as he had 3 blocks.

You can see this team gaining confidence, and they are doing it with the rest of the NBA world looking down on them. The win came after ESPN ran a story criticizing the Suns and their front office for their dysfunctionality. Beating the Bucks was the Suns way of saying, “We don’t care what anyone thinks.”

After this win, every game left on the schedule should be considered a winnable game. The Knicks are up next, but the Suns also still play the Pelicans, Bulls, Pistons, Kings, Wizards, and Grizzlies in March. If the Suns keep it up, they could finish out the month with an above .500 winning percentage for March.

The Phoenix Suns didn’t just beat the team with the best record in the league last night. They didn’t just win the game but rather they have their confidence back.
