Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors (6:00 pm MST)

This Pacific Division matchup is the one game where Phoenix Suns fans truly hate both teams. But rather than rooting for either team to win, Suns fans should root for a Lakers loss.

Yes, the Warriors are annoying. Kevin Durant signing with a 73 win team was frustrating. DeMarcus Cousins joining in will make them almost impossible t beat in a playoff series, even with their relatively rough start to the regular season. And in the playoffs, they should be public enemy number one.

But on Christmas Day, Suns fans should want the Lakers to lose even more. The Suns were good when the Lakers were good, but they’ve been bad throughout this whole Warriors stretch of dominance. And most frustrating is that the Suns were bad while the Lakers were bad too, and the Suns put together a better young core, but the Lakers still got LeBron James.

Is there anything more annoying than every star player wanting to play in Los Angeles just because it’s Los Angeles? Players obviously have the right to go to whatever team they want, but when every player has the same team on their short list, it becomes maddening for any fan base. It’s even worse when that team is your biggest rival.

LeBron James is a likable player, and the young players on the Lakers all are too (although they’re not nearly as fun as their fans seem to think). But it would just be nice if the Lakers’ mediocre rebuild getting bailed out by top players wanting to play in Los Angeles didn’t work this time.
