Dallas Mavericks

Sure, every Phoenix Suns fan would love Dennis Smith Jr., and/or Luka Doncic (seriously!! How did Ryan McDonough NOT pull off a trade for Doncic after drafting Deandre Ayton?!) but the Dallas Mavericks are not trading them.

Their best backup though could be the Suns’ best starter: J.J. Barea.

Barea has both the veteran experience and credibility in the NBA to step right on the court for the Phoenix Suns and make an immediate impact. He makes up for his lack of height with heart and intelligence and would be acquired for the short-term and helping Phoenix win a few extra games this season would not be an impossible task.

The problem though is that he is basically a Maverick for life, so I am not sure that Dallas would even entertain offers for him unless they were blown away with a first round pick for some crazy reason.

Maaaaaaybe at some point if Dallas falls apart and Smith and Luka Doncic dominate the minutes so much the Mavs would be willing to accept a second round pick for Barea?

That offer probably wouldn’t come or even be listened to until the trade deadline though so it wouldn’t help the Suns out a whole lot right now – which is when they need a new starting point guard.
