Phoenix Suns Rumors: How they can acquire a Northwest Division starting point guard
By Adam Maynes
Minnesota Timberwolves
Is there another team in the league that is a bigger mess than the Minnesota Timberwolves? They need to rid themselves of Jimmy Butler in the worst way and while the Houston Rockets have reportedly offered the ‘Wolves a whopping four future first round picks, if that rumor is true and they haven’t accepted it yet, obviously Minnesota is looking for something more, probably in the range of players who can actually help them win now and look more for addition by addition and less addition by subtraction.
My hope is that Minnesota somehow acquires another point guard in the Jimmy Butler trade then have to move a point guard to keep the rotation stable, or they need to swing a three-team trade just to move Butler and the Suns can become that third team and acquire either Jeff Teague or Tyus Jones.
Either Teague or Jones would be tremendous leaps forward at point guard for Phoenix although the veteran Teague would make the Suns competitive right away. Teague is not only a big offensive leap, but his ability to run an offense is a bit of a rarity in the NBA right now.
At 30-years-old he wouldn’t be a long-term answer, but he would be one of the better short to intermediate-term solutions. That said, if he signed a contract extension after 2019-20, he could be around until the mid-2020’s if he is successful.
From only an age and timing perspective, should the Suns acquire him, he could in many ways be a lot like Steve Nash upon his second arrival.
