What the Suns need most at point guard is a veteran who knows how to win, one who has experience winning, and who can run the offense efficiently understanding his role and executing it effectively. Jeremy Lin has never won a title – or even a playoff series – but he is obviously a veteran who knows how to win and who can certainly lead the young Suns not only by example but through his veteran leadership as well.

There is a problem with making a trade for Lin – aside from Trae Young (who I would prefer, of course), the Hawks don’t really have another point guard so Phoenix would be asking to pilfer from a position that is already very low.

Lin is Young’s primary backup and I’m sure Atlanta too wants to have a veteran to back up the rookie for at least a season to guide him in the very same way that Phoenix would want him.

If the Hawks begin to stumble though, they might look to make a move to continue the rebuild.

Unfortunately for Phoenix Atlanta plays in the Eastern Conference so they have a shot at making the playoffs even with only about 35 wins. Should they see the playoffs in their near future they might actually look to add a piece or two rather than take away.

That said, if the Hawks want to tank one more season and add some additional youth, a small package centered around Dragan Bender might do the trick.
