Ryan McDonough has been fired as the Phoenix Suns’ General Manager. Of course that was all we talked about during Valley of the Suns Live! on Monday evening!

Special Guest Extraordinaire Kory Miller joined Host Adam Maynes as we broke down the firing of Ryan McDonough in every detail that we – and the joining fans – could conceive.

Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver fired Ryan McDonough on Monday the 8th, shocking everybody throughout the Valley of the Suns. So of course this was the primary topic of interest for Suns fans as we inch closer and closer to the start of the 2018-19 regular season.

While many people have called for McDonough’s firing for some time, nobody would have predicted that it would have happened so close to the start of the regular season. If Sarver was going to make the move, you would assume that he would have done it soon after last season, allowing another General Manager to go through the draft, maneuver the offseason with trades and free agency, hire a head coach, and lead the team into the 2018-19 season.

But instead, McDonough was allowed to complete the entire offseason and training camp before he was asked to hand in his badge, and the position was handed over to James Jones on an interim basis.

This whole thing smells of rotten fish, but we discuss our thoughts during the broadcast.

James Jones appears to have been given the same mandate that Ryan McDonough apparently had, and that is to find a starting-caliber, quality point guard.

Who knows how quickly he can pull off such a move – if at all – and whether or not he now has a little additional leeway considering that the mess that Sarver apparently perceived was more McDonough’s fault than Jones’, and that he will have to find a way to find that point guard considering the roster is pretty much set for this season and a number of assets that could have been used to acquire a PG have already been shipped off.

Don’t forget! Valley of the Suns Live! streams on Twitter, Periscope, and YouTube every Monday evening at 6pm Arizona time!

The show is an open conversation and all fans of the Phoenix Suns are encouraged to join, participate, and share their thoughts about their beloved franchise!
