The top-five options for the Phoenix Suns at General Manager
By Adam Maynes
Sam Hinkie
Whatever catch phrase you want to use to call the past few years of abject tanking for the Phoenix Suns, it has come to an end.
Just as “The Process” has in Philadelphia.
The architect of the Suns’ tanking is now gone, while the architect of The Process is still looking for a job.
If Sam Hinkie couldn’t finish what he started in Philadelphia, there is no other team in the NBA who is in such a similar situation (including the roster position of having a young, dominant center and wing) than the Phoenix Suns.
Why not give Hinkie the opportunity to finish what he started in Philadelphia, with the Suns?
For all the initial vitriol that Hinkie received for mercilessly losing in Philadelphia, there is no better proof that his plan was successful than the 76ers’ run to the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season. Aside from Markelle Fultz (who was nearly one of the greatest busts of all-time before the end of his rookie season), the core is all Hinkie’s and the method for which he built the roster was embraced and beloved by it’s current face of the franchise, Joel Embiid.
Who better to find that point guard of the future than Hinkie, or develop a system that can work with the roster he would be handed, while also finding those nickle and dime pickups that Robert Sarver so dearly loves?
Furthermore, if the process of losing by which the roster was built was embraced by the players, then can there be any better a General Manager to reach out to the stars and guarantee their acceptance in the system than him?
Sam Hinkie deserves a second shot in the NBA, and the Phoenix Suns might be the absolutly perfect place for him.
