The Suns shoot a lot  of 3’s

Basketball is a team effort, and in the end, all the Suns have to do is score more points than their opponent, even if those points aren’t scored by Devin Booker or Deandre Ayton.

Mathematically, three points is better than two.

50% better, in fact.

And it just so happens that the Phoenix Suns appear to be moving heavily into the direction of the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors and plan on taking a lot more 3’s this season than they have in years past.

If the Suns really do take a lot more 3’s, and they make a lot more 3’s, then their ability to outscore their opponents will be far greater than it has been since Steve Nash stopped running the 7 Seconds or Less system here in Phoenix soon after the Suns’ last playoff run.

Until Deandre Ayton is able to dominate in the post (presuming that he doesn’t do so this season, although here’s to hoping he does), the Suns are going to need to shoot over defenses as much as possible, while making as many as possible.

dark. Next. Three extremely lofty goals for the Phoenix Suns in 2018-19

There is no more efficient way to put points on the board than by nailing 3’s at a great clip, and there is no better way to either pull ahead of an opponent or come from behind than by draining 3’s like they are going out of style.

Even if McDonough isn’t able to acquire a star but he is able to find additional help to help drain an excess amount of 3-point shots, then the Suns might just shoot themselves to enough victories where they can actually start taking, and making, shots, in the playoffs.
