There is breaking news!!! The Phoenix Suns have no point guard! A recent update on this event, provided by John Gambadoro, reveals that the Phoenix Suns are still trying to fix their problem. While nearly any point guard might be better than what they have now, there is one choice that should stand above the rest.

It seems the Phoenix Suns have a new infatuation.

All summer they have been trading in their Kentucky guards for Houston Rockets after acquiring for Ryan Anderson and De’Anthony Melton in addition to signing Trevor Ariza.

If the decisions were up to me they wouldn’t be finished quite yet – at least when adding former Rockets. The Suns should complete their lineup by adding Rocket of five years: Patrick Beverley.

When you think about the type of point guard you want next to Devin Booker you are thinking about Patrick Beverley. Booker needs someone who is not ball dominant yet still a good shooter, and someone to cover him up on defense.

In Beverley’s last full season (2016-17) he was awarded All-Defensive First Team honors, so that is taken care of, along with shooting 38% on 3’s on over four attempts per game.

Perhaps most importantly Beverley should come cheap.

With a log jam at point guard for the Clippers and a need to clear roster spots, the 30-year-old on a non-guaranteed contract should be expendable. The goal for the Clippers should be just to get as many assets as possible and free up playing time for their two lottery picks.

An ideal trade from the Phoenix Suns perspective could like something like this:

Although this trade may not look very exciting for the Clippers, it might be the best they can do in their current situation. The Clippers can immediately waive Darrell Arthur to help with their roster spot crunch, and they get cash to offset his larger salary.

They should also be getting a high 2nd round pick this year along with a little bonus of possibly getting to swap later on.

For the Suns, this puts them in an intriguing position where they would have 60% of the 2016-17 Houston Rockets starting lineup that had 55 wins.

If you believe that Devin Booker is the next James Harden and that Deandre Ayton can be as good as Clint Capela i year three, would it be unreasonable to expect at least 35-40 wins?

Next. Another name the Phoenix Suns should look to trade for. dark

Even though he may already be 30-years-old and probably not a contributor for the future, it makes sense to acquire Patrick Beverley for the now. It is not everyday that an All-Defensive First Team dead-eye 3-point shooter becomes available on the cheap, not to mention on such a small contract.

So if the Phoenix Suns are in the market for a point guard, which they are and should be, and want the best balance between production and price, they should look no further than someone who meets their new infatuation, a former Rocket, Patrick Beverley.
