5. The Phoenix Suns trade for a star point guard

Sometimes for a rebuilding team, adding a star to the roster can make all the difference in the world for fans in whether or not they will continue to stand behind their beloved franchise or not. Drafting one (or two) helps a ton, but often just isn’t enough – just ask the Boston Celtics.

However, trading for one and adding star power to a roster with one fell swoop, can change the momentum of a franchise in an instant.

It is by no means out of the realm of possibility for Phoenix as the Suns have done that multiple times in their history, through both trade and free agency:

From Connie Hawkins in 1969, to Paul Westphal in 1975, Kevin Johnson (Feb.) and Tom Chambers (July) in 1988, Charles Barkley in 1992, Jason Kidd in 1996, and Steve Nash in 2004 (and there are more), each time, the franchise leapt up from a team who was middling around trying to find their way to, in an instant, taking a giant leap in a positive direction.

The same thing is likely to happen to the franchise at some point in the near future, and may even happen this season.

Whether or not the Suns make the playoffs, the addition of a star point guard (n my mind, the most likely – as unlikely as it is – is Damian Lillard), even at the trade deadline which might be far too late to make a postseason push, would be enough to rejuvenate the fanbase and thrust Phoenix towards playoffs talk as early as 2019-20.

Should Phoenix pull off such a trade, regardless of the regular season record, it would be easy to denote this season as a success.
