#9: Ish Smith (6-0, 175 pounds, 2013-14)
When the Suns traded away Caron Butler after his photo shoot in the new uniforms at the time, Smith was one of the pieces acquired. At the time he was very much a raw prospect that became a decent backup point guard.
In his third game with the team, he posted a then career-high 8 assists, and later in the season he also posted a then career-high 15 points. A spark plug in limited minutes, Smith shot 42% from the field and averaged 3.7 points, 2.6 assists, and 0.7 steals in 14.4 minutes.
#8: Frank Johnson (6-1, 185 pounds, 1992-94)
Well into his 30s when he was in Phoenix, the Suns were Johnson’s last team as a player, and he didn’t have too much left to offer. However, he was dubbed “4th Quarter Frank” thanks to his late game heroics and clutch shots that helped the team close out games.
He made 44% of his shots and posted 4.5 points, 2.3 assists, and 0.7 steals in 13.6 minutes as a member of the purple gang from Phoenix.
#7: Brandon Knight (6-3, 195 pounds, 2015-16)
Knight was acquired by the Suns in a three-team trade at the 2015 deadline. He was playing very well in Milwaukee at the time of the deal, but he only played in 11 of 28 games for Phoenix, making 31% of his treys and averaging 13.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 0.5 steals per game.
That didn’t stop the team from signing him to a 5-year, $70 million deal though.
