The two most pressing issues for this week’s show was that of the Suns’ Summer League and the incident involving Devin Booker and Tyler Ulis in a Tempe hotel.

The Suns’ Summer League team had been the presumptive favorites to take the Las Vegas Summer League crown as the roster was chalk full of guaranteed NBA players from Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson, Davon Reed, Alec Peters, to rookies Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Elie Okobo, and George King. With at least six players who are guaranteed to be on the Suns’ regular season roster this coming season, it almost seemed like a foregone conclusion that the Summer Suns would take the title.

Alas, a first round playoff loss to a previously winless Summer Sixers team spoiled that goal, and Phoenix was left with a 4-1 record, but no title.

Not lost in that though was the poor play of both Josh Jackson and Dragan Bender. Two players with many high hopes to dominate the Summer League (especially by Jackson in the manner that Devin Booker dominated the 2017 Summer League for a couple of games), the two players had poor showings that not only did not impress, but actually left fans with more questions than answers about their potential in the upcoming 2018-19 regular season performances.

Certainly Deandre Ayton was another player to watch, and while his performance was far from dominating, the fact that he averaged a double-double (14.5p and 10.5r) was more than enough to keep fans encouraged that with a legitimate point guard this coming season who can get him the ball in the post, that he will be able to put up similar numbers his rookie year.
