Point Guard

Starter: Brandon Knight

Reserves: Tyler Ulis, Shaquille Harrison, Elie Okobo

At the moment, Brandon Knight is the expected starting point guard for the Phoenix Suns as they head into the 2018-19 season. Making his return from his ACL injury, Knight will be one of the key veteran leaders on the roster and the best point guard they have had since Eric Bledsoe decided that he didn’t want to be here.

Fans should be excited to have Knight back because his return to the floor marks the biggest improvement the Suns will have at any position this coming season over last. You might recall how absolutely horrible the guard play was in 2017-18, arguably the worst in franchise history. Knight’s return alone which serves as both the addition of a true starting point guard as well as a stabilization of the position, will make the Suns a better team immediately.

Tyler Ulis is on the roster still, and if he is retained he will be the backup (again, barring a free agency signing or trade). But if he is released as many expect to happen, then for the time being, the backup will be a dogfight between Harrison (who came onto the scene late last season and won fan’s hearts with his defense and tenacity), and rookie Okobo who is expected to be a solid scorer and possibly  the team’s point guard of the future.

Don’t expect that to stand, though, as adding a veteran point guard to back Knight up will definitely be a priority of General Manager Ryan McDonough this offseason.
