Denver Nuggets

There’s a lot that points to a future rivalry with the Nuggets. Arguably the biggest reason (and X-factor) is the Nuggets first round pick, Michael Porter Jr.

Porter Jr. is generally considered one of the most talented players in the draft, but he comes filled with injury and character questions that lead to his fall to the 14th pick. The Suns selected two players before him, which could certainly be used by Porter Jr. as a chip against the Suns.

Not to mention, if he reaches his potential, he could end up leading Denver to a playoff run. Last season, they missed the playoffs by just one game. Other than Paul Millsap, the team’s core is young and (hopefully for them) improving. Rarely does a team like that get the chance to add such a talented player through the draft, and Porter Jr. could be just what they needed.

The Nuggets also have Nikola Jokic, a 23 year old unicorn big man. He’s a triple double threat and a big name to mark on the schedule. Watching him go against Deandre Ayton over the next many years should be a treat, and if Ayton reaches his potential, it could be a premier Western Conference matchup.

If players develop well, the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets could turn into a frequent playoff matchup and a fun rivalry in the West.
