The Phoenix Suns had a fantastic draft. There are multiple reasons why Suns fans should be ecstatic about the outcome.

While many fans were extremely disappointed that the Phoenix Suns didn’t walk away from the NBA Draft with Michael Porter Jr., there were many reasons why they should be very happy with the results of the day.

These are the top three reasons:

The Phoenix Suns selected Deandre Ayton

On the surface this sounds like a no-brainer, but think about it: if the Suns had only had one pick in the entire draft, it happened to still be the first overall pick, and they were able to select Deandre Ayton, wouldn’t that make the draft a tremendous success? Wouldn’t most fans (excluding those who weren’t on the Luka Doncic bandwagon – he who slipped to number three before being traded fifth), grade the Suns’ draft an A?

The term “generational player” had been thrown around more often surrounding Ayton than any player in franchise history. He has the potential to not only become a dominant center in the NBA, but has been compared to so many hall of famers it’s actually embarrassing to mention their names for the hundredth time on this blog.

If Ayton pans out and not only becomes a great player but the second part of a legit Shaquille O’Neal/Kobe Bryant 2.0 duo that he has mentioned that he and Devin Booker will become, than even if the other three picks (and whoever is selected with the traded Miami Heat’s 2021 unprotected first round pic) all turn out pretty good, it really won’t matter.

With his selection, the Phoenix Suns are finally set up to begin winning basketball games again, and Ayton – who should be the opening night starting center – looks to be at the heart of it.

The Phoenix Suns selected the best player in the 2018 NBA Draft, and that alone should make fans love  the results of the draft.
