13th Pick

The Clippers make this deal to dump some salary and prepare themselves for the future. They own both the 12th and 13th picks in the draft, and swapping the lesser of the two for the 16th could be worth it in order to shed Gallinari’s albatross. Chandler comes off the books after next season, and is a good reserve if the team wants to remain competitive and hold off on rebuilding completely.

For Phoenix, they get to move up 3 spots, and get an offensive threat that can play either forward position. Gallinari’s main concerns are his defense and staying healthy. The Suns’ staff could hopefully help him with the health option. And his shooting off the bench for them could conceivably make up for his poor defense. For Phoenix to want to take on that contract though, a player they rate very highly on their board would have to fall to 13.
