Last offseason, we brought you a unique mock draft that posed this question: what if the Suns were to trade for every single pick in the first round of the draft this year? Without context, you might question how any team could do such a thing. Trust me, no team has that kind of asset stockpile available to them at this point.
In this scenario, each trade would exist in its own hypothetical universe, independent of every other trade in this post. So there will be plenty of duplication of assets that are traded. We are mostly just curious; what might it take to trade for any one first round pick in this NBA Draft?
We will be using FanSided’s latest mock draft as a basis for what players might be available at certain picks. Some of these trades may be crazy, and many of them probably aren’t very realistic. But that doesn’t mean that these trades aren’t still fun to think about. So with that being said, let’s start with the 30th overall pick!
30th Pick
Though it’s not the most exciting trade in the world, this deal could easily be a possibility if the Hawks want to pick up a couple extra assets in exchange for moving back just one spot. The compensation would have to be fair though, as Atlanta would lose 4 years of control on whoever they may have wanted to take at 30. For Phoenix, they can move up and take a player they’re targeting, and only lose two 2nd round picks that probably wouldn’t have made the roster anyways.
Simons is a high upside pick here for Phoenix. He can play either guard spot, and he possesses great athleticism that will let him compete defensively against both point guards and shooting guards. Simons could eventually become the starting point guard or a 6th man for Phoenix in a few years. With the 30th pick, you can’t get much better value than that.
