Draft Deandre Ayton

The first and easiest way for the Phoenix Suns to have the greatest draft day ever is by selecting Deandre Ayton.

I know, I know, many fans wish that the Suns would select Luka Doncic first overall instead of Ayton, while others actually really do what Phoenix to take Marvin Bagley III. But the fact of the matter is, no matter what team was drafting first overall, they would be taking Deandre Ayton. He is, by all accounts, the consensus first overall pick, and if the comparisons to legendary NBA centers in the intro are even remotely true, then the Suns are drafting a star, one would could easily re-shape the franchise forever.

Granted the greatness of the day will eventually be entirely based on whether or not the selection of Ayton pans out or not. We certainly can’t presume that he is going to be a star/superstar and need to see him in action first.

That being said, the initial reaction should and will be one of general euphoria. The Phoenix Suns will have made the first overall pick for the first time in their history, they will have selected the projected best player in the draft, and they will have a projected dominant center for the first time ever.

Even if he never turns out to be not quite a good as projected, there is no doubt that right away he will be a tremendous upgrade at center over anyone they currently employee or might be able to acquire this offseason. His selection alone makes the Suns more competitive, and should be enough to make this the best draft ever.
