The Lakers could form a superteam

As each roster stands right now, the Suns’ future looks far brighter than the Lakers’. Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma have shown nothing more than unsustained flashes. But Devin Booker has had proven success over three seasons and Deandre Ayton will immediately be one the league’s most exciting big men.

But the thought of a Lakers superteam in the West is terrifying for the Suns.

The Western Conference is already daunting, but there’s at least hope that some of the teams will break up soon. Chris Paul‘s is near the end of his prime in Houston. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green could leave Golden State. After that, the West should open up. Unless LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George all team up out in LA.

The Suns are in too deep to push back their timeline now. Their core is already, for the most part, in place. Sure, they can hopefully acquire some big name free agents, and they could improve enough to be competitive. But the team’s success will largely revolve around Devin Booker’s prime, which obviously isn’t infinite. The last thing the Phoenix Suns want is another team eating into their championship window.

Suns fans should keep an eye on where big-name players land this offseason, even if the team isn’t directly involved.
