A team makes a strong offer for the first pick

It seems like a foregone conclusion that the Suns will go with Deandre Ayton first overall. Reporters were very impressed by his team workout, giving him an even firmer hold on the unofficial position of “Consensus Best Player Available.” Not to mention he’s a center, which would fill a position of need for Phoenix.

But what if another team loves Ayton and makes the Suns a monster offer? Last summer, the Celtics traded out of the first pick, and while it would certainly be a surprise, it’s possible the Suns do the same.

The Kings could offer the second pick and De’Aaron Fox. Other teams in the top five could dangle future first rounders at the Suns. And while it seems unlikely Amy team would make such an aggressive play at the first pick, crazier things have happened.

This would give the Suns plenty of thinking to do. They would be forced to not just consider which prospect they like best but how much more they like him. If they decide Ayton is far and away the best player on their board, we might never even know an offer was made. But if other guys are close, and a potential package is good enough, we could be in for a crazy night.
