What happens if something goes wrong with Ayton

There is another thing though: many analysts have Ayton considered to be a can’t miss prospect; yet so many too say that once he reaches his prime, Bamba will be the best player of their draft class.

For the Suns to have this kind of a duo in their front court for the first time in their 51-year history after never having had even one player of that caliber, has got to be something that they should absolutely try and do. They should look at it from the old adage that if you can do something once, then why not twice?

Not only does the thought that Phoenix could potentially have a twin towers that might not only form a defensive juggernaut but also an explosive offensive duo, but there is also some built in insurance:

When Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough traded back into the top-ten in 2016 to draft Marquese Chriss after selecting Dragan Bender fourth overall, he was not only selecting the best two players he believed were available, but also being that they essentially played the same position (power forward), a position that they had no one else to play at that time, he had some built in insurance.

Granted, as of yet, he may have failed to find above average talent with either pick, but the risk was worth the potential of the reward.

The same could be said here with Ayton and the potential to select Bamba.

Next: The Phoenix Suns should not trade for Karl-Anthony Towns

While there is always some trepidation behind any and all draft picks that they might not pan out, having two guys who seem to be close to sure things on any level would benefit the Suns if one of them happens to never become the star talent that they each might yet become.

The odds are definitely greater that both will pan out and become stars versus either of them becoming a bust, so the need for insurance is a nearly unnecessary reason for acquiring him.

However, Suns fans are perpetually pessimistic and many are already worried that the fact that Phoenix got the first pick simply means that there is a greater expectation of a letdown. Acquiring two top-rated bigs giving the franchise a bit of a safety net is something that would not only make fans feel good, but also the team much more secure moving forward.
