The Phoenix Suns hold the 16th overall pick in this year’s draft. Many believe that they should trade the pick for a veteran. However, I am on the side of “why not just use the pick.” While it may not seem like all too great a pick, many great players were selected in the bottom half of the draft. Brevin Knight
Brevin Knight was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 1997. Knight played for nine teams during his NBA career. The high-point was making the All-Rookie team for the 1997-98 season. Across 729 games Knight averaged 7.3 points 6.1 assists and 2.4 rebounds. Knight played 24.9 minutes per game and started 423 times.
Chris Gatling
The Golden State Warriors selected power forward Chris Gatling 16th in the 1991 draft. Gatling was a one-time All-Star (1996-97) who played for eight NBA teams. During his all-star campaign, Gatling averaged 19.0 points and 7.9 rebounds. During his career, he compiled modest stats of 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds across 700 games. Gatling played 19.7 minutes per game but only started 86 times out of the 700 he played.
Terry Mills
Terry Mills joined the Milwaukee Bucks after being drafted 16th in the 1990 NBA Draft. The 6’10” power forward laced up for five NBA teams and started 303 of 678 games, averaging 24.2 minutes played. His best years were spent in Detroit where he went three consecutive seasons averaging over 14 points per game, 14.8, 17.3 and 15.5 points from 1992-95. Over 11 seasons, Mills averaged 10.6 points along with 5.4 rebounds while shooting 38.4% from 3.
