The Safe One:

From all appearances, the Kings are in love with Luka. I’m sure most of that has to do with Vlade’s irrational love of European players, but in this case he’s not totally crazy. Doncic would be a great fit alongside De’Aaron Fox.

The Suns seem to love DeAndre Ayton, but could easily scare the Kings into believing that they’ll draft Doncic given his connections to new Head Coach Igor Kokoskov. Why not leverage the threat of picking Luka into an asset from the Kings and still get the player the Suns want anyway?

As much as we all love having Alan Williams as the backup center, Willie Cauley-Stein would be a considerable upgrade over what they have now. Replacing Tyson Chandler and Alex Len with Ayton and Cauley-Stein would be a beautiful thing. The Suns would suddenly be two-deep with quality young talent at every position except for point guard.

It’s a simple win-win for everyone with the only downside that the Kings might go crazy and suddenly flop back for Ayton. If so, no big deal because no one should cry over drafting Doncic and picking up a young center in the process. You just go throw money at Clint Capela and all is right with the world.
