With the second worst regular season in Phoenix Suns history finally in the books, this week Valley of the Suns Live! was dedicated to the offseason, as we had our first postseason episode focused squarely on what the Suns can do to improve the roster and become a playoff team in 2018-19, and less on the losing that already feels far, far behind us.

Phoenix Suns fans are already excited about the prospects of what General Manager Ryan McDonough can and will do to improve the roster, beginning with the draft.

Popular consensus says that if the Suns land the first overall pick in the draft that they will select University of Arizona center DeAndre Ayton. The potentially dominant big man that the franchise has longed for over the past 50 years, Ayton would bring a tremendous balance to the offense, anchoring a front court that currently struggles to put any points on the board.

Should Phoenix miss out on the first pick and slide to second, and Ayton is still selected ahead of them, then the belief is that Luka Doncic is their man, an Anfernee Hardaway and Ben Simmons-type player who would help to open up the offense in a completely different way, utilizing his size, grouped with Devin Booker and Josh Jackson, creating a three-headed backcourt monster of capable ball-handlers and scorers, each no shorter than 6’6″.

In conjunction with and following the draft, McDonough will need to improve the roster through other means, whether it be via free agency or through trade.

Of course there are several notable free agents that he can pursue, specifically at power forward, with Aaron Gordon, Clint Capela, Jabari Parker, and Julius Randle, each potential upgrades at power forward and/or center, at least depending on what else happens in the draft.

Watch the video to see which one I believe would be the best target for the team this summer.

Also there are is the potential for trades. A year ago, everybody believed  that Brandon Knight was on his way out, without almost any hesitation. However, at this point, he might be the point guard of (at least the near) future, and many Suns fans actually seem to be very excited about the prospect.
