Rick Welts

Rick Welts was a basketball genius who helped shape the game of basketball. With over 40 years of experience in the NBA, he worked a wonder of magic in the league. He is credited with creating NBA All-Star Weekend, he developed the marketing campaign behind the 1992 “Dream Team,” and helped launch the WNBA. The reason I say “magic” is his story is one that you could tell your kids when you tell them to not ever give up and that if you keep pushing, any thing can happen. He entered the NBA world as a ball boy for the Seattle SuperSonics in 1969 and eventually rose to Director of Public Relations with the team. Rick held many positions at the league office for the NBA for 17 years from 1982-1999, leaving as the league’s Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer and President of NBA Properties. Mr. Welts then spent nine seasons with the Suns from 2002-2011 as and Chief Executive Officer and since 2011 he has had the same role for the Golden State Warriors. Congrats Rick Welts!
