Phoenix Suns Second Round small forward prospects
6. Kelan Martin – Butler/From Kentucky (6-7 230, 22 years old)
Kelan put up a 44-36-83 shooting line, scoring 20.8 points this season. He was the leading scorer in the conference. Also averaging 6.2 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.5 blocks, he was named to the All Big East 1st Team. With 7 games of 4 assists or more, he is a decent passer as well. In 8 games versus ranked teams, he made 48% of his three point shots and scored 22.5 points per game while maintaining similar to his season averages in the other categories. Ask then #5 Xavier how good he is as he lit them up for 34 points, making 6 treys and also grabbing 7 boards and dishing 4 dimes. Martin is very productive all across the board. It didn’t use to be that way. He used to be strictly a scorer but he’s worked on his fundamentals and become much better all around ala Devin Booker this year. He has shown a lot of emotional maturity as well. He’s hungry to be better, wants to be better and will be better. The Suns need more players like that, especially with guys like Marquese Chriss, who have all the talent in the world but just seems like he doesn’t care some times.
