Phoenix Suns Second Round small forward prospects
The Phoenix Suns are armed with multiple second round picks. It is time to evaluate draft prospects at small forward the Suns should look at with those picks.
This is the third piece looking at underdogs worth using one of their second round picks on. Again, to qualify, these guys must have little chance of hearing their names called in the first round. However, they could all contribute to this young team.
The Suns own their own second round pick, which at this moment sits at 32 due to their current position holding the second worst record in the league.
Phoenix Suns
They then also hold the Milwaukee Bucks’ second round pick (only if it falls between 48-60, which right now it is 45th because they hold the 15th pick overall), and the Toronto Raptors’ pick with is currently 58th as they have the third best record in the league.
Presumably Phoenix will use it’s own second round pick as it will be a value selection sitting so high in the second round. Adding size the roster with a hopeful diamond in the rough big would be a fantastic help as they are likely guaranteed to lose at least Alex Len with no guarantee that they will be able to replace him in the first round.
The Milwaukee and Toronto picks (hopefully the Milwaukee pick does not transfer because they are high enough in the first round that their first round pick will transfer to Phoenix this summer) will be good for a draft and stash-type player, of which there are multiple on this list that could be a had with either, if not both, of those picks.
Dillon Brooks, Jerami Grant, James Ennis, Jae Crowder and Draymond Green are recent second round small forward picks that have become contributors in the NBA. Who could be next?
Let’s jump right into looking at the prospects.
7. Desi Rodriguez – Seton Hall/From New York (6-6 220, 21 years old)
Desi is a 3-And-D-type prospect, similar to Davon Reed. He averaged 17.8 points on 50% field goal shooting and 38% shooting from downtown along with 4.9 rebounds and 1 steal per game. He can share the ball a little bit, dishing at least 3 assists in 10 different games. He excelled against ranked teams. His accuracy went up a little bit and he put up 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 6 games against tough competition. Arguably his best game of the season came against then #17 ranked Louisville, when he lit them up for 29 points (12-18 FG) along with 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block. Give Reed the rest of the season and hopefully more minutes due to the team being in tank mode but another prospect that plays his style of ball could be in play and Rodriguez would not be a bad add. He is #8 seeded Seton Hall’s leading scorer and will be the main guy in trying to defeat #9 UNC in the 1st round of March Madness.
