Phoenix Suns second round power forward prospects
The Phoenix Suns are armed with multiple second round picks. Let us evaluate draft prospects at power forward the Suns should look at with those picks.
This is the second piece looking at underdogs worth using one of their second round picks on. Again, to qualify, these guys must have little chance of hearing their names called in the first round. However, they could all contribute to this young team.
The Suns own their own second round pick, which at this moment sits at 32 due to their current position holding the second worst record in the league.
They then also hold the Milwaukee Bucks’ second round pick (only if it falls between 48-60, which at the moment it is 45th because they hold the 15th pick overall), and the Toronto Raptors’ pick with is currently 58th as they have the third best record in the league.
Presumably Phoenix will use it’s own second round pick as it will be a value selection sitting so high in the second round. Adding size the roster with a hopeful diamond in the rough big would be a fantastic help as they are likely guaranteed to lose at least Alex Len with no guarantee that they will be able to replace him in the first round.
The Milwaukee and Toronto picks (hopefully the Milwaukee pick does not transfer because they are high enough in the first round that their first round pick will transfer to Phoenix this summer) will be good for a draft and stash-type player, of which there are multiple on this list that could be a had with either, if not both, of those picks.
Montrezl Harrell, Richaun Holmes, Dwight Powell, Mike Muscala and Joffrey Lauvergne are recent second round picks that have become contributors in the NBA. Who could be next?
11. Johnathan Williams – Gonzaga/From Tennessee (6-9 230, 22-years-old)
He scored 13.5 points per game this season (57% FG) along with 8.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Decent. However, he really stepped it up in the second half of the year. His accuracy and scoring stayed about the same (58% FG, 13.3 points) but he pulled down 10.8 boards and swatted 1.5 shots each match in the last 11 games. He grabbed attention when he lit up then #7 Florida with 39 points, making 16 of 22 shots. Johnathan is a good low post scorer, adequate defender and strong rebounder.
