The Suns’ 2nd second round pick this past summer, Alec Peters has spent the vast majority of his time in the G-League, making a few brief appearances with the big club here and there, but never in anything other than garbage minutes.

In this limited time, it is difficult to gauge who he actually is moving forward, and who he can be in the NBA should he ever be given a full-time opportunity.

Unfortunately, while sold as a possible legitimate 3-point shooter, Peters has only shot 3-21 from beyond the arc with Phoenix, a disappointing 14.3%. While that percentage is likely not indicative of his actually shooting ability, he in fact is shooting 40.3% from 3 in Northern Arizona, it would have been a very nice positive if he had a 3-point percentage somewhere above 30% at least.

If he is afforded any more minutes with the Suns the rest of the season, he needs to start nailing some 3’s. If he does so, there is still a chance that he is retained after this season and kept as a back of the bench stretch-4 into next season. If he doesn’t hit those 3’s, while his chances aren’t that high of being a long-term player on the roster anyway, it sure does make it more difficult to consider keeping him.
