After the draft and the free agency period the Suns should be well positioned to take a serious leap next year.  It is probably overly optimistic to think they could be playoff bound, but they should be playoff competitive with a core that can grow into much more without many tweaks.  That should be the goal.

If the Suns can manage to make a deal they might be able to speed up the timeline. Assuming that it’ll be tough to move Chandler and Dudley before the start of the offseason, maybe they can move them on the back-end for a team looking for an expiring contract. Maybe Utah wants to dump Ricky Rubio. Maybe Orlando wants to give up Nikola Vucevic or maybe someone wants to finally flip a star for some assets. You never know, but the Suns have a wealth of expiring contracts and assets to make a deal.

Conclusion:

The Suns have a chance to go all-in, but they have to do it wisely. They have to avoid the big deal for a player who doesn’t fit. They have to avoid selling out the big plan to compete for a championship for a quick path to the playoffs again. This offseason gives them a chance to load up all of their assets for premier young assets who fit the timeline.  Let’s hope Ryan finds a way to make it happen.
