How the Phoenix Suns can win the offseason
By Andrew Clark
The Draft:
The next big challenge for the team will be the NBA draft. The team will almost certainly have a top-5 pick of their own which they shouldn’t move unless someone sells the farm. They also have a mess of additional assets in second round picks and future first round picks from the Bucks and Heat. The Suns need to stack their talent now around the core they have.
Thus:
5. Try to package the Miami pick and an assortment of other assets to collect a second top-5 pick.
The Miami pick may land closer to the top ten which would make this strategy much more plausible. Can you get a talent starved team like Memphis to move down a few spots to pick up future assets? Maybe. It’s worth trying to be sure. There is no reason to add four rookies to this current roster and more rookies in the years to come. The Suns should go all in on getting complementary talent who can develop now, not 5-7 years from now. This draft is loaded with ideal talent for just such a move.
At a minimum the Suns need to:
6. Draft DeAndre Ayton or Luka Doncic
