How the Suns can pull off a trade for a star
By Adam Maynes
Utah Jazz
Donovan Mitchell has suddenly brought Jazz fans hope for the future following the loss of Gordon Hayward (and no, Mitchell is not better than Devin Booker).
The Suns had been tied to Derrick Favors in the past, and he still wouldn’t be a bad pick up now, although he is far from a star.
The name to call Utah about is Rudy Gobert, although the likelihood of snagging him would be small. Gobert has been a bit injury prone in his career, which might lesson his value a little, although he is still a supremely talented defensive star.
If McDonough called Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey right now they wouldn’t get very far in conversations. However, if the Jazz continue to lose and realize that they are stuck in NBA Purgatory, Lindsey might be willing to listen later. I’d bet that two first round picks and one player might make it happen, so long as the trade happens late enough before the trade deadline (or in the 2018 offseason), that everyone involved knows that the Suns’ 2018 pick will be relatively high.
This is purely speculative since I do not know if the Jazz are in a position to make any trades, but there is still that chance that at some point they want to build around Mitchell specifically, and want to add more definitive scorers around him.
