The ability to acquire one more star and have a “big-3”
The NBA today requires teams to have multiple stars on their roster just to compete. Fortunately, the Phoenix Suns already have one, a damned-good one, making their ability to bring together three or four a decent percentage easier than teams with none.
Adding DeAndre Jordan moves them to two, meaning that the Suns would then only need to find one more to push them deep in playoff discussions, a situation that should be a lot easier to accomplish at that point than had the Suns not acquired Jordan at all.
Booker alone will make good players look to Phoenix as a possible destination, so a third might be had as early as this summer via free agency with Booker and Jordan at the head of the Suns’ recruitment efforts.
You also never know when another star player will become available via trade and can be had at a reasonable price that Phoenix can afford. If this happens, then it behooves McDonough to find a way to make that trade happen, and for the first time in a long time, make that trade.
Regardless of how it happens, the Suns will be 2/3’s of the way towards having their own big three, and that is not even taking into account that if kept, the potential of T.J. Warren, Josh, Jackson, and even Dragan Bender continuing to develop over the next year or two would add tremendous depth to the whole group.
