Reason #2: Style of Play

BOSTON, MA – OCTOBER 18: Greg Monroe
BOSTON, MA – OCTOBER 18: Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe is a big, bruising player. He lives in the low post, crashes for boards and loves to take his man down low.

For the Suns, who are trying to play a quick, high-tempo offense oriented around getting out in transition and moving the ball, Monroe definitely does not fit the system.

Instead of getting a player who is able to shoot the three, spread the floor and provide some small amount of defensive versatility, Phoenix opted for Greg Monroe, a slow, poor shooting big man, who can only guard his own position.
