Why Greg Monroe Doesn’t Work in Phoenix
Well, that just happened.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski, the Suns have traded Eric Bledsoe for Greg Monroe and a future first round pick:
Only a couple of weeks ago, in a somewhat unexpected turn of events, possibly in reaction to the Suns firing former head coach Earl Watson, Bledsoe tweeted out, “I Don’t wanna be here”.
After that tweet, Bledsoe never made another appearance for the Phoenix Suns. Mike James and Tyler Ulis were tasked with taking over the point guard duties full-time and have helped the Suns play a more attractive, free-flowing style of basketball under new interim head coach Jay Triano.
For Eric Bledsoe, Milwaukee was a pretty ideal trade destination.
Even before this trade, the Bucks look like a team capable of making a deep run into the Eastern Conference playoffs. Now, with a core of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Malcolm Brogdon, Khris Middleton, Jabari Parker (when healthy) and Eric Bledsoe, Milwaukee has no excuse not to make a dominant run to at least the Eastern Conference Finals.
For the Phoenix Suns, this trade symbolizes the end of an era. With Eric Bledsoe moving on, the last of the old point guards have now departed. Isaiah Thomas and Goran Dragic left Phoenix long ago. Now, with Bled leaving town as well, the Suns are moving into a new period: full trust in the young talent on their roster.
With full focus on the youth, let’s take a look at a few reasons why Greg Monroe is a bad fit on this young, talented Phoenix Suns roster.
