Suns Power Rankings: Week 1 Recap
After a truly historic start for the Phoenix Suns, we continue our power ranking series. Welcome to the first NBA regular season Suns Power Rankings!
Going into this year, there was certainly a lot of optimism surrounding the Suns. With a growingly talented roster, many people were hoping for a very entertaining first week of Phoenix Suns basketball.
Phoenix Suns
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
This year started out with a 48 point loss to the Portland Trailblazers on opening night. Stagnant offense and lackluster defense made it extremely hard to take away many positives from 2017-18’s first game.
After a day off, the Suns took on the Lakers in the battle of two of the NBA’s youngest, rebuilding teams. In a back and forth game, which finished 130-132 in favor of the Lakers, Phoenix looked decidedly better. The Suns had three players finish with over 20 points (Bledsoe, Booker and Warren), but a bad night from the free throw line ultimately doomed the Suns.
Finally, we move to Phoenix’ most recent defeat, another 40+ point loss (88-130) away to the Clippers. Alex Len led the team in scoring with 15 points, no Suns’ player had more than 6 assists and Phoenix got outrebounded by the Clippers 36 to 52.
Ouch.
So, where should the Phoenix Suns be in the NBA power rankings?
The Suns should be dead last. As of this writing, the only other NBA teams who are 0-3 are the Dallas Mavericks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Dallas has lost all three of their games in relatively a competitive fashion, (111-117, 88-93, 91-107). However none of their three losses even compare to the Suns’ two 40+ point defeats.
Philadelphia, despite being 0-3, has played some very exciting basketball so far this season. Ben Simmons is emerging as a very good player and Joel Embiid is finally showing the rest of the league what he can do. Philly won’t be winless for long.
Next: Suns Defense Continues to Disappoint
That settles in then: the Phoenix Suns are currently the worst team in the NBA.
Do not despair Suns’ fans: it’s a long season and there is a lot of exciting Suns’ basketball ahead.
