A slow start to the season with the New Orleans Pelicans could allow the Phoenix Suns to trade for the long awaited franchise big man.

Recently, there has been an All-Star name floating around the NBA trade rumor mill. New Orleans Pelicans star big man Anthony Davis could be the next trade target of the Boston Celtics, if he becomes available according to Zach Lowe. Now this affects the Phoenix Suns, because Lowe does not believe that the Suns are no way close to being competitive enough for a star like Davis, even though they have the assets to trade for the big man. Contrary to Lowe’s opinion, the Suns are ready for Davis and can make a quality offer for the All-Star big.

The Deal

In order to get a player like Davis, the Phoenix Suns will have to give up young players with potential, veterans with big money on their contracts, and future draft picks. Luckily the Suns have plenty of each to make a deal the with the Pelicans. New Orleans will only want a deal like that if they go into full tank mode. The Pelicans will go into a rebuild if they struggle to make the jump into the playoffs again this season. They will try to trade all their valuable pieces to jump start the rebuilding and Davis is the most valuable player they have. Jrue Holiday is an All-Star point guard, but he has a huge contract and injury history that would scare most teams. DeMarcus Cousins is intriguing player as one of the best centers in the NBA, but his attitude is less than good to say the least and he is on the last year of his deal. With that, there is no guarantee that he will stay after the season is over. Davis is young and is under contract for four more seasons with the fourth having a player option. Davis is without doubt the best target for the Suns to aim for and this is what they can offer for his services.

The trade is more than fair and there are plenty of reasons why both teams should do this deal.
