A border-line Hall of Famer; one of the best point guards in his era; the best point guard the franchise ever saw for the first 30 years of it’s existence: yet Kevin Johnson is the third point guard on the Suns’-time roster.

Yet almost incredibly, there is this: if playing with both Steve Nash and Jason Kidd in their prime’s, Kevin Johnson is actually a shooting guard.

KJ is undoubtedly the best scorer/passer of the three with three seasons of over 20 points and 10 assists per game his resume (three more than both Nash and Kidd combined), yet it is his specific ability to score that allows him to not only make this roster, but have a spot on the court throughout the entire game if need be due his talent as just as excellent a scorer as he was a passer. Don’t believe me? Check out his 1996-97 statistics when he added a 3-point shot to his arsenal for the only season of his career. He nailed 44.1% of them. You don’t think he could have done that with regularity if the 3-point shot was a more prominent part of the NBA game when he was in his prime? Hell yeah, he would have.
