August is a rough time of the year for basketball fans. It’s the wasteland between the free agency frenzy and the start of preseason. (Although the new uni release was cool!)

The Phoenix Suns have had nearly 250 players pull over a purple and orange jersey over their now 50 seasons of NBA play. From the Hall of Famer’s (Gail Goodrich, Connie Hawkins, Dennis Johnson, Gus Johnson, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and soon Jason Kidd and Steve Nash) to the guys that maybe only played a matter of moments (Courtney Sims, Ian Lockhart, and Gani Lawal each share the dubious distinction of having only played for two recorded minutes each in their entire Phoenix Suns career, the least for any player to ever reach the court at least once) the franchise has had numerous memorable players who have helped to tell the story of this proud franchise.

So lets take this down time to reflect on the Phoenix Suns of the past. In this series the plan is to choose a best of the best roster from each decade since the beginning. Everything is going to be based off of stats (pulled from Basketball-Reference and the Phoenix Suns website) and coupled with personal preference. Hopefully this allows for those that read to not only come up with their own “best of” rosters but also take a look back at teams past and realize how lucky we are as fans to be the fourth winningest team in NBA history. So without further ado….
