Just by looking at Davon Reed, you can tell he is an athlete. He’s 6’5″, with a 7′ wingspan and a 36″ vertical. That wingspan was the longest among all shooting guards measured at the NBA Draft Combine in May.

In the NBA, do you know what a 7′ wingspan and a 36″ vertical mean? Block parties. Davon Reed’s new Suns teammates are going to love playing defense next to Reed, because of his lethal length in help-side defense. When Tyler Ulis gets beaten on defense, Davon is going to be there to alter any opponent’s shots with his wingspan.

Reed has yet to show his true athleticism on the offensive end, but his defense is clearly elevated by his inherent athletic abilities. Imagine, somewhere along the line Davon does develop a polished offensive game. Reed could be alternating between draining threes and blowing by defenders for posters at the rim.

For Suns fans, nothing could be better.
