Step 2 – The Season
How the 2017-18 season ends up in Phoenix will largely determine how much consideration LeBron will give to Suns next offseason. The Suns don’t need to win, but the young core does need to show improvement as well as stay healthy.
It might actually even be better if the Suns can show the improvement but remain in the bottom of the NBA standings in order to secure a top pick in what should be another great Draft. This should not be too condemning as the West has only improved this offseason so the Suns will face stiff competition constantly.
The other factor is that youth doesn’t win in the NBA. A starting lineup comprised of an experienced PG, a 3rd year SG, a 20-year-old rookie SF, and two 20 year old PF’s/C’s will have a hard time winning.
The objective this season is to show that the Suns not only have potential, but that the potential is beginning to manifest itself on the court. LeBron has proven his ability to elevate the the play of his teammates. This season could show him just how competitive this roster could be with him on it.
