In an unfortunate twist of fate, many Phoenix Suns fans got what they wanted: Brandon Knight will not play for the Phoenix Suns again – at least not in 2017-18.
When news officially broke yesterday that Knight had torn his ACL in a Pro-Am pickup game in South Florida, the team and fans were thrown for a loop that they had never expected to occur. Due to the injury, Brandon Knight will most likely not play for the team this coming season (which, due to the injury itself as well as the severity is almost a foregone conclusion). However, while some fans had hoped that that outcome would happen anyway, most would have believe that he would either have been traded, waived, or bought out – the three most likely scenarios that might have fully ended his career in the Valley of the Suns.
But as shocking and truly heart-breaking as the news of his injury was, in actuality it has made Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough and Head Coach Earl Watson’s jobs a little bit easier this offseason, as well as over the next two years following.
In many ways Knight’s injury has cleared up very specific questions that has confronted the franchise this summer.
It is important then to note, that in a few key instances, Knight’s inability to play this season was, in a way, a blessing in disguise – the biggest and most controversial way being in regards to the potential acquisition of current Cleveland Cavaliers superstar point guard, Kyrie Irving.
