Shorter contract

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports said on Friday that the Phoenix Suns are likely to do more than just kick the tires on Paul Millsap in free agency, although they would not entertain offering him a max four-year contract, and certainly not a five-year sign and trade. He believes that the Suns will look to sign him at either two or three years, and if he accepts, the team will be able to keep the re-build for a few more years before attempting to acquire an additional superstar either in free agency or through trade for long-term.

Whoever they seek to acquire this summer, the Suns need to use some of their cap space. By moving only one player in the group of Tyson Chandler, Alex Len, Brandon Knight, Jared Dudley, or Eric Bledsoe they have the ability to not only acquire Millsap, but potentially add another piece or pieces to the roster to help give the team further depth. On a shorter contract, Paul Millsap will not hurt Phoenix’s ability to continue to re-build, and more importantly he does not prevent the team from having the flexibility to acquire and add more talent post-draft.
